Redemtech’s Serious Good Contest
Helping community organizations. Protecting the environment. Multiplying the good.
We organized the Serious Good™ Contest on Twitter because non-profit organizations too often go without computers, or struggle with outdated, worn out equipment. Refurbished gear can help them modernize and help more people – to multiply the good.
That’s why we set aside over $10,000 of professionally refurbished equipment to award to deserving organizations from Redemtech’s Red Rabbitt™ brand of Microsoft Authorized Refurbished computers. From November 9, 2009 through December 7, 2009, individuals used Twitter to nominate their favorite non-profit, NGO, school or public library to win a package of much-needed desktop computers, refurbished to the highest standards.
The awards are top-brand business-grade desktop computers from Red Rabbitt, reconditioned, repaired, upgraded and professionally packaged to provide a like-new experience. The Serious Good prize packages include:
- Desktop computers from Hewlett-Packard (D530 and DC5000) and IBM (ThinkCentre S50) with minimum 2.8GHz processor, 1GB memory and 40GB hard drive
- 19” Dell LCD monitors
- Certified genuine Windows® XP Professional operating system
- Microsoft Office 2003 including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Publisher and more
- New keyboards and mice
What organizations were eligible?
Most non-profit and charitable organizations were eligible, including schools, public libraries, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the United States. Most political organizations such as PACs are not eligible. Redemtech reserves the right to determine eligibility. 501c(3) non-profit organizations includes a wide range of organizations. Check here for details.
Selection process
Redemtech reviewed the entries and chose more than 20 organizations for consideration as Finalists. These organizations were contacted by phone or email to ensure they meet program qualifications. Ten finalists were selected based on the nominated organization’s potential to use the donated equipment to “multiply the good” as described in the nominating tweet.
Finalists were posted on http://blog.redemtech.com on Wednesday, December 9 for voting by the general public. Voting was open to anyone.
The five organizations that received the most votes won five Red Rabbitt computer packages to help them modernize operations. The remaining Finalists will receive two Red Rabbitt computer packages.
Voting closed at 8 p.m. EST on Wednesday, December 16. Winners were named on Thursday, December 17.
*Under the rules of the Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher program, computers that go to schools cannot include Microsoft Office. The Microsoft Partners In Learning program offers Microsoft Office at a substantial discount for schools.
Claiming prizes
Redemtech will deliver the equipment, and organizations must claim their awards by January 31, 2010.
If winning organizations do not need desktop computers, they may choose other office equipment or computer accessories from the Red Rabbitt store for an equivalent dollar value. Or, if the organizations do not need all the computers they are eligible to receive, the remainder may be donated to TechSoup Global, a partner of Redemtech in the Refurbished Computer Initiative (RCI), to support the technology needs of other non-profits around the world.Follow us on Twitter for ongoing updates and news about the contest.
