Okay, Readers: Now It’s Your Turn
During a recent return flight from the west coast, I started thinking about you, dear reader. I got to thinking about how, for over a year and a half now, I’ve been sharing my thoughts about IT asset management here in periodic installments.
So enough about me for now, I figured. What do you think? What are you doing? How are you tackling your tasks? What kinds of ITAM-related initiatives do you have in your 2010-11 budget, now that the economy seems to have finally begun stabilizing?
Are you implementing improved policies and controls, or perhaps still working on getting hardware management under control? Are you moving on to the larger challenges of software asset management, and if so, are you using centralized procurement models?
Are you implementing new on-the-wire discovery technologies, or possibly working on maturation of management practices for all platforms: end user computing, servers, network, telecom, etc. Do you have partial or comprehensive TCO models for your technology platforms? And finally, are you considering the end-of-life residual value as a component of the total cost of ownership?
I’m looking forward to hearing from some of you on these questions. But of course, feel free to answer other questions I haven’t posed, but should have.
