Creating the Conditions for Growth and Maturity
No one makes an acorn grow. Instead, the natural environment--the soil, the water, the sun--creates the right conditions in which the acorn can grow into a mighty oak.
While there are some parallels, it’s a little different for businesses. In order for a business venture to grow into a prosperous enterprise, it must itself create the conditions for that growth. Just as the soil, water and sun nourish the acorn and help it grow, so too do the right blend of people, processes and tools nurture a growing business.
Without soil, there is no substance in which to root the acorn. Without good processes, there is no substance in which to root the business. Without water, there is no life from which to grow the acorn. Without the proper people there is no life with which to sustain and grow the business. Without sun the acorn will not grow. Without the right tools the business’ growth soon stalls.
Once organizations have the processes in place to provide the products and services their customers need, they must also hire the right people that are necessary to perform those processes and implement the most efficient tools that will allow that business to flourish.
Business leaders must create the conditions that allow for organizational growth and maturity, then step back and watch with a little patience as their acorn matures. After all, you can't dig up an acorn to watch it grow.
I ask you: How many of your IT asset management programs are missing essential conditions that are hindering its ability to grow and mature?
